How do I begin using your web site to order doors? From the Quality Doors section leader page, we have links to all Quality Doors pages on our web site. These links are also
repeated at the top of each QD page. The links are organized by door series, basic QD info on policies, accessories for cabinet refacing, and then helpful information pages. There are also links for our on-line
quotation form which can also be used as an on-line ordering form. We also have a fax quotation or ordering form. These forms provide needed blocks for you to fill in your data. They are a guideline and some areas of
the forms may not pertain to all series of doors. Read on. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] Which door design best meets my needs? This is a summary of what each door series is: Series 100 doors
are laminate doors in white or almond with a continuous wood pull at the top or bottom, or no wood pull if you like. Series 200 doors
are plywood panel wood doors. They are 5-piece construction with a M&T frame (Mortise and Tennon). A M&T frame is a 90 degree butted joint. You can order various wood species either finished or unfinished.
Series 300 doors
are raised panel M&T wood doors. This series offers the greatest possibilities in door design. Thousands of different combinations can be made. There are a lot of wood species to choose from. And you can order them finished or unfinished.
Series 500 doors
are mitered corner raised panel wood door. A miter corner is the 45 degree angle connection you see in the corners. Only square and rectangular styles available, unlike series 200 and 300 which allow various arches and wave configurations. All wood doors can be ordered finished or unfinished.
Series 800 doors are plywood panel mitered corner doors. Frame selections are the same as series 500, you just have a plywood panel instead of a raised panel. The series 400 drawer fronts
offer slab drawer front possibilities to go with series 200, 300, 500, and 800 doors. In most cases, matching edge profiles can be selected. Sometimes not. The wood choice and finish choice if selected will be identical to the doors. When interested in 5-piece drawer fronts to match the door look, series 200, 300, 500, and 800 offer choices for that.
Series 700 doors
are RTF door (Rigid Thermal Foil). Also called Foil doors. RTF is a highly durable ready finished surface. Series 700 offers raised panel look doors that are solid MDF one piece construction with the RTF covering. Shaker style doors are also available. Matching drawer fronts are available in series 700.

What are the differences between each Quality Doors series of doors? The paragraph just above explained each series of doors. Series 200, 300, 500, and 800 doors are wood doors that can be ordered unfinished or
with one of QD's offered finishes. Series 300 and 500 are raised panel doors. Series 200 and 800 are plywood panel doors. You have options of 90 degree corner connections or mitered corner. Mitered corners look like
picture frame connections. The M&T corner has become extremely popular and is a very strong connection for doors. It also also possibilities for arch top doors and arch bottoms too. The series 100 doors are laminate
covered doors, and the series 700 are RTF (Rigid Thermal Foil). RTF can adhere to curves and shapes and even allow finger pulls on the edges of doors. Laminate doors are plain. RTF doors can become quite fancy. RTF
doors need no further finishing, the RTF surface is a highly durable surface. The series 400 drawer fronts are one piece wood drawer fronts meant to accompany the various wood door series choices. [

What is the difference between a mitered corner wood door and M&T door? A miter corner door has all 4 pieces of the frame cut at 45 degree angles and fitted together in the corners. A M&T (Mortise &
Tennon) joint is butting a square edge to a flat edge, thus a 90 degree connection. The top and bottom rails fit between the side rails of the door. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] What do the terms RTF and MDF mean?
RTF is Rigid Thermal Foil also known as foil doors. It is not laminate or melamine, it is different. RTF is pressed onto an MDF core using computer controlled heat and pressure. MDF is micro density fiberboard. It is
not particle board or wafer board. It is a tightly pressed wood composite material. Very strong, commonly heavy, and gives a door a very solid feel. RTF doors are great for bathrooms and kitchens. The surface is
virtually scratch and stain resistant. You do want to be careful about allowing RTF door to touch a high heat surface such as the side of an oven. The foil covering can melt when in contact with high heat. Boiling water
is not high heat. An oven set at 400 degrees is high heat. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] What is the difference between RTF doors and melamine doors? Melamine is a hard plastic type surface that offers no contour. It is flat only. A very good surface, but it
can scratch and possibly stain in the scratches. RTF is flexible and comes in some wood grain selections. Thus you can have a raised panel look in a solid one-piece door. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
Profiles? What exactly are frame, panel, and edge profiles? What does pass profile mean? This is one of the tricky parts about ordering doors. For series 100 doors, there are no profiles. For series 200 doors
which are a 5-piece construction with a plywood panel, you will select a frame and edge profile. The frame profile is the inside part of the frame that meets the plywood panel. The edge profile is the very perimeter of the door. An example is D and 115. This combination makes the popular shaker style look.
For series 300 doors, you have the most options. You can select a frame and edge profile just as in series 200. But you also select a panel profile. This will be the slope or curve of the panel as it rises away
from the 4-piece frame. With 7 total frame choices, 9 panel choices, and approx. 31 edge choices, you can have thousands of looks with the 19 different door designs in series 300. The profiles page shows the 5 pieces of
the door extracted away from each other so you can see how they fit together with each other. In Series 500 and 800, your choices are limited. In these two series, you select the design you like which is
basically the frame profile, such as 504, 506, 801, etc. Edge choices are not abundant. Some frames come with only one or two edge choices, some have a few choices. You do not have a ton of options as with the M&T
frame edge choices. In series 500, you can select a panel profile, in series 800 it will be a plywood panel. The series 700 RTF doors
are one piece MDF core doors. Thus you select a "pass profile" which cuts an inner grove to create a frame and panel profile look. You then also select an edge profile from the choices on the series 700 page. Profiles are basically the shape or contour of the doors as they fit together.

Do I have framed cabinets or frameless? We have a page titled: Definition of face frame & euro box cabinetry -illustrated On this
page we have drawn top views of cabinets as if looking down through the counter top. This is best explained by looking at that page. A face frame cabinet has a frame mounted to the front of the cabinet box. Doors mount
onto the face frame and generally cover a small portion of the frame. A Euro box or frameless cabinet has no frame. The edges of the cabinet box are seen when the door is open or not in place. Overlays and inset
applications are also explained on that web page. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE
] How can I see colors of doors? The Wood finishes page in the Helpful information link block will show the available wood finish stain colors Quality Doors provides. They do not perform custom stain matching. Only there stains shown and on the wood species they are shown on are all that is available. Any wood species can be finished with just a clear coat natural finish. The finishing process and available glazes and options are explain on that page. There is a lot of data on that page. It is best to print it out if you can. RTF foil colors are also shown on that page. As updated colors become available, we will post the new information. All wood doors are available as unfinished if you prefer. Various charges apply for various finishes. We will quote them for you.
[RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
Which wood species do the doors come in? Each door series page 200, 300, 500, and 800 have grids on them showing the available wood species choices. Some designs cannot be made in all woods. Paint grade and paint
grade with MDF panel options are available too. Popular wood species such as red oak, maple, and cherry are available in most every door and drawer front. Series 300 has the most wood species choices. Honduran Mahogany,
Walnut, Pines, Ash, Alder, Hickory, and White Oak are other selections in series 300. The select woods are hand picked for greater consistency in grain pattern and color. Select woods are recommended for natural or
frost colored doors, but are not mandatory. Some people like to see a small knot or darker grain in the wood. This is part of the natural beauty of wood. Most natural finished doors will be made from select woods. It is
your choice. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
How do I measure for the correct doors? The Measuring guidelines page offers the same instructions in the official Quality Doors spec guide and some notes we added. The Quality Doors Specifications guide is what you see on our web site. It is not the same book titled "A guide to Affordable Cabinet Refacing." The spec guide contains far more information and that info it repeated all throughout the QD section of our web site.

How do I determine the right hinges for my doors? There are three common applications: 1) concealed hinges for a face frame application; 2) concealed hinges on a frameless application; and 3) semi-concealed
hinges on a variable overlay application on a face frame. The Hinges and hinge boring guidelines page shows how QD will bore their doors for concealed hinges. They offer hinges for 1/2" overlay and variable overlay of 1-3/8" or greater for concealed hinges on a face frame mount. If you have frameless cabinets, we can find the proper Euro box hinges you need. If you are planning semi-concealed hinges, then you do not want your doors bored. You can view variable overlay semi-concealed hinges in the Amerock and Classic Brass sections of our web site.
[RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
Can I have the doors bored for the European concealed hinges? See this QD web page: Hinges and hinge boring guidelines
. It is very important to state left of right side boring for arch topped doors or doors that have left or right design profiles. There are a few. Rectangular doors can just be turned over for left or
right side hinge mounting. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
What are your stock sizes of doors? There is no such thing. Every door is custom made and even if it measures 18" wide by 30" tall. Everything is considered custom. You can have your doors made to the
sixteenth of an inch. We price out doors by exact square footage. So a door that is 15" x 27-1/4" is just pennies less than a door that is 15-1/16" x 27-5/16". Quality Doors does not stock any doors, all are made to
order. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
Why do all your Quality Doors pages look the same on top? Almost every section of our web site contains the same headers. Each section leader page contains the same left margin and header. This allows you to jump
sections in our web site. We also have a site navigation button on each page which brings you to a summarized index page. So each Quality Doors page contains the same header so you can jump from QD page to QD page. We
know it is not always easy to know what everything means and there is a lot to read. Please feel free to e-mail us if you have trouble. When you advance pages and it appears that you didn't, please scroll down on the page. The new information will start.

How do I select the right drawer fronts to go with my doors? Series 100 doors have matching melamine fronts with or without the continuous wood pulls. And the wood pulls can be on one side only if you choose.
Series 700 doors have matching RTF raised panel fronts or slab drawer fronts. Series 200, 300, 500, and 800 doors have matching drawer fronts for most designs if you meet the minimum heights. Series 400 slab drawer
fronts can be used in conjunction with any wood door. In most cases you can have a matching edge profile on the slab drawer fronts. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
About ordering drawer boxes and drawer slides if you require them. Drawer boxes are easy to order. You have a choice of 3 set depths 15", 18" or 21". There are 3 standard height choices which cost less than
custom heights. You can have a custom height. The width is 100% custom, you must state your width as all drawers are different especially in custom kitchens. As with doors, the drawer fronts can be made to the 1/16".
Standard drawer slides are available. These can be a side wall mount or floating face frame and rear socket mount. Full extension slides can be ordered too. The width of your drawer box must take into consideration the
clearance needed for side mounted drawer slides. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
I need cabinet refacing material, what do you have? Veneer, RTF sheets, mouldings, plywood.... Yes. Check out the various Accessories links for these materials. Many of these are
priced on our site because they are standard items. You can order most in unfinished or finished choices. Plywood is cut to size. Mouldings come in 8' lengths only. Veneer and RTF sheets are self-adhesive backed and can
be trimmed to size; they come in 24" x 96" size only. Plywood is recommended to cover end panels, or you can use doors. Veneer is recommend for refacing face frames. Veneer is not recommend for very large areas. Better
to use the 3/16" plywood. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
How do I see door pricing? Pricing is complex and different for every door and drawer front. We have provided an on-line quotation form to fill out. There is also a fax form that can be printed and
faxed to us. If you just want to type your information in a plain e-mail and send it to us, that is fine. Please remember to specific door designs, wood, finishes, profiles, sizes, quantities, options. Everything
contributes to the price. We would prefer that you fax or e-mail us. Door quotations over the phone can be very time consuming. We can tell you square foot pricing if you like. To quote out a long list of doors over the
phone does take some time. If you can, please e-mail us. If you just have a few sizes of doors and know all your profile selections, etc., you are welcome to call us. Most on-line and fax quotes are answered in 1
to 3 days depending upon our daily volume. And as most working people know, the day seems to disappear quite quickly most of the time. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] Why are there so many more selections on
your site than in the book I picked up at my local building supply store? We are an industrial supplier. We sell to the general public, woodworkers, cabinet shops. We actually specialize in helping the
do-it-yourself reface his or her kitchen. Anyone can order from us. Our information is taken directly from the Quality Doors specification guide. Their other booklet found in builder warehouse stores titled "A Guide to
Affordable Cabinet Refacing." is a limited offering of their products. That is a special program designated for these warehouse superstores. We can order all of the Quality Doors available products. [

How do I navigate the Quality Doors section of this web site? From the top of most every QD page, the same links keep appearing over and over. They are separated into 4 sections: Door and drawer fronts styles;
additional info pages; accessories pages; and helpful information pages. Most have been explained in answers above or below this question. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] Can I get samples of the colors?
There are basically 4 ways we can think of for you to see the colors. The first is to visit a warehouse builders superstore such as The Home Depot or Lowes. Most have Quality Doors displays with the updated colors. You
can at least view the colors in the stores that have displays. Note that not all colors may be shown as the displays can contain only so many doors. The second way is to order one door or one drawer front in the
smallest size you many be using. There is no minimum order. This way you can see an actual door with the profiles of your choice in the color or unfinished wood of your choice. The third way is to order Quality Doors
fan deck of colors. The wood finish fan deck is all the actual wood finishes on 3" x 6" pieces of plywood. You will see all the available stains. This fan deck is $130, so not always the best option for seeing the
colors. The RTF fan deck is $70. Both are non returnable. As are door samples. If you order them, they are yours to keep. This is why we mentioned visiting The Home Depot or Lowes first. And the fourth way to see a wood
finish sample is to order a small piece of plywood with the finish on it. For glazes, you cannot see them on plywood, they are not applied to plywood. But you can view the stain colors with a minimal expense this way.
There are no free sample. Sorry. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] Can I just order a sample door to begin with? Most certainly. There is no minimum. If you are ever uncertain about how it will look, order a sample first. Sample doors take about the
same amount of time to produce as a large order. Quality Doors produces a ton of orders weekly. Unfortunately, there is no rushing a sample order. We do ask, if you have any doubts about how it will look, order a sample
door or drawer front first. All doors are custom made and non-returnable. Including sample doors. Order the sample in a size you will be using. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] How long do door orders take to receive?
Throughout most of the year, Melamine and RTF doors ship in two weeks or less. Unfinished wood doors usually ship in two weeks. Mitered corner doors can take a few days to a week longer than the M&T doors.
Finished doors usually ship in 3 weeks or less. Glazed doors may take a few days longer. Quality Doors usually shuts down for a holiday break in late December and early January. Thus they do have a cut off time in the
very beginning of December for doors to ship by their normal schedule. Their holiday break can add a couple of weeks to the lead time for door orders placed in December. Every Spring (late February to late April) is a
busier time of year for them and lead times can stretch by a week or two during this period. We process orders one by one and fax them in to QD right away. We do not batch them or hold them. So when you authorize an
order with us, we fax it in the same day or the next day without delay. Then we update you when Quality Doors confirms the order usually within 1 to 3 days. Door orders are set up as direct ships in the continental US
to help speed up delivery time. Orders to Alaska and Hawaii, we ask QD to quote freight on and then proceed with accordingly. Sometimes we have small orders ship to us first, then we will reship to Alaska and Hawaii to
save on your freight cost. Every order is different. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] What is glazing? How do I order glazing? See the Wood finishes page. All information about profiles and selections allowed for glazing is lower on that page. It is a very long page with a lot of information retyped as it appears in the QD spec guide.
[RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
Do you paint doors? Quality Doors does not paint any of their doors. They do not prime them either. Unfinished wood doors will be fine sanded and ready for you to finish. Finished wood doors are available in
their stain selections only. If you need a white door, or antique white or almond, the RTF doors are great choices for that. The RTF surface is superior to any painted surface. It is worth looking at the series 700
doors first. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE]
I want mullion doors but am not sure about how to order them. There is a page on the mullion doors. This shows standard mullion doors and special design doors. The 300 and 500 series can be made into mullion or
frame only doors. Frame only are one big opening ready for a glass insert. Mullion doors are the large opening broken into smaller lite openings. One piece of glass is still used but it gives the illusion of several
smaller pieces of glass. You specify how many lites you would like. ML4 and ML6 are very popular (4-lite and 6-lite). RTF doors are also offered in frame only or mullion selections. [RETURN TO QUALITY DOORS LEADER PAGE] Ordering policy, warranties, claims?
These 3 pages can be viewed directly. The information was taken directly from the spec guide. |
