Characteristics of Wood:
Warping, Cracking, and Proper Humidity Under normal conditions all wood products contain some moisture. Quality Doors
products are manufactured from wood or wood products that have been dried to appropriat moisture content and have been inspected for warpage of 1/16" per lineal foot or less.
Wood readily exchanges moisture with the water vapor in the atmostphere according to the existing relative humidity. Uncontrolled extremes (below 25% or above 55% relative humidity) can likely cause warping. In high
humidity wood picks up moisture and swells. In low relative humidity, wood releases moisture and shrinks.
This subsqwuent dimensional change in wood is and always has been an inherent natural property of wood and wood products. Under normal conditions these changes will have little or no effect on your doors. However,
care should be taken to protect cabinets from extreme conditions. These changes cannot be the responsibility of the manufacturer. Moisture and Solid Wood Quality Doors uses only
materials that have been dried to appropriat moisture content. Years of manufacturing and dsign experience assure you of a trouble free product for years to come. As normal minor fluctuations in humidity occur, the
resulting dimensional changes will be insignificant. However, as normal wood movement occurs some compression and separation will occur at the joints. When solid light colors are used, this movement will result in
cracks at the joints. This is considered a natural characteristic of solid color finishes on wood. These cracks are not considered as defect but acceptable and not reason for replacement. |
These are the current wood finishes offered on wood doors, drawer fronts, veneer, and plywood from Quality Doors. Natural and light colored stains are recommend to be used on select woods. Darker stains can
be used on normal or select woods. Select woods do offer a more consistent stain coating. There is a lot of data typed BELOW the color images on this page, it is the information from the Quality
Doors spec guide that we want to make available to you. Other wood species offered by Quality Doors are available in clear coat finishes if you desire. Below are the only "stained" choices for specified
woods. Toward the very bottom of the page, we will also show nine RTF (rigid thermal foil) finishes. The 19 LARGE
wood finish pictures below are 150 dpi JPEG images. We left them at high quality. As with any screen image, colors can vary by monitor and monitor type. Reds, blues, yellows can be distorted. And various color printers can print colors differently and the paper you use can affect the outcome. Screen images are for representation and can vary from actual finish on wood....

Quality Doors 14 Step Finish Every door and drawer front we make is quality - from start to finish.
Our pre-finished wood doors go through our 14-Step Finishing Process.
|
STEP 1. Only the finest, top quality hardwoods in Oak, Maple, Cherry, and Hickory selected. STEP 2. Progressive machine-sanding process.
STEP 3. Hand-sand with #220 grit sandpaper to assure the best possible surface for finishing. STEP 4. Stain toner is applied as needed to establish a base color. This minimizes variations in wood color. STEP 5.
Careful steps are taken to ensure that the stain is sprayed on all surfaces, penetrating seams between the panel and frame. STEP 6. Stain is hand-wiped to bring out the hidden beauty of the wood grains.
STEP 7. The doors are passed through a convection oven for the final drying phase. STEP 8. The doors are sealed with a clear, penetrating, catalyzed varnish wood sealer.
STEP 9. High-temperature ovens assure the sealer dries to a hard, durable finish. STEP 10. The entire face and back is hand-sanded, providing a smooth surface to the topcoat.
STEP 11. The catalyzed varnish, clear topcoat is hand-sprayed on all surfaces. STEP 12. Top coat is baked on, in high-temperature infrared ovens, ensuring maximum resistance to UV fading, scuffing and moisture.
STEP 13. Before packing, products are individually inspected to Quality Doors' high standards. STEP 14. Prior to shipment, each door and drawer front is wrapped in foam to help ensure they arrive in perfect condition.

FINISH DESCRIPTIONS The following will be the 2 pages from the Quality Doors spec guide retyped for your reference.
|
FINISH: Quality Doors uses finishes that protect and enhance the natural beauty of wood. Extra care is taken to ensure a uniform finish. Because we are dedicated to customer satisfaction, we
feel that it is important t explain some of the characteristics of Quality Doors finishes and hardwoods.
Like fingerprints, characteristic differences in color and grain are produced by nature in every
tree. These variations are what created the beauty and interest found in the wood. The variations in color, grain and texture will cause variation in the finish, even though identical finishing processes are applied.
These variations are considered a natural characteristic of hardwood and are not a defect. We hope that you will appreciate and enjoy this beauty. OAK FINISHES: Chestnut - Light-medium tone
stain color. This finish blends the natural variations in wood color and grain creating a warm finish that doesn't mask the natural character of the wood. Frost - A translucent finish that only lightly
masks the full range of color and grain variations found naturally in the hardwood. This finish will contain noticeable grain and color variations. Stain buildup in grain, corners and grooves is an inherent
characteristic of the Frost finish and is considered acceptable. Harvest - Light translucent finish that features the color range and grain patterns found in natural wood. All variations in the wood are
enhanced to create the warm natural look of the Harvest finish. Noticeable grain and color variations are inherent characteristics of this finish. Royal - Medium stain color. This finish features the bold
look of the wood grain. The medium color blends many of the wood colors but allows the bolder variations of the natural wood color to create a beautiful finish. MAPLE FINISHES: Biscotti -
A cool, neutral brown semi-transparent finish. Biscotti / Mocha - Biscotti finish highlighted with a medium brown glaze. Butterscotch - Light translucent no-wipe stain that features the natural
look of hard maple. The stain color only lightly blends the natural color range and grain variation of the wood. This finish contains noticeable grain and color variations. Butterscotch / Mocha -
Butterscotch finish highlighted with a medium brown glaze. Butterscotch / Vanilla - Butterscotch finish highlighted with a light glaze. Cafe - A rich medium brown finish that draws out the
grain characteristics of hard maple. This finish contains some grain and color variations which adds to its beauty. Cafe / Licorice - Cafe finish highlighted with a dark brown glaze. Champagne -
A translucent finish that lightly masks the color variations found in the wood. Noticeable grain and color variations are normal. Stain buildup in grain, corners and grooves is an inherent characteristic of the
Champagne finish and is considered acceptable. Champagne / Vanilla - Champagne finish highlighted with a light glaze. Cordovan - Dark rich stain on hard maple. The full range of the wood color
is blended to make a beautiful finish. Noticeable color variations in the grain are a characteristic that is highlighted by the hand wiped stain. These characteristics are natural and exhibit the beauty of maple.
Natural - This finish consist of clear sealer and topcoat that is applied directly to the wood without stain. The variations in grain, character and wood color are highlighted with this finish. The natural
variations in the wood are considered a feature o this finish and are not a defect. Praline - Light-medium finish that blends the finish color with natural hardwood colors. The no-wipe stain application
blends the different colors of the wood with the stain. The finish process reduces the variation of wood colors and minimizes color contrast in the finished product. The natural wood grain and natural character continue
to give the "real wood" look blended by the stain color. Praline / Mocha - Praline finish highlighted with a medium brown glaze. Praline / Vanilla -
Praline finish highlighted with a light glaze. Sandstone - Warm ivory, semi-transparent (looks solid) finish on maple, with details accented in a light, taupe glaze (if glazed).
CHERRY FINISHES: Please note that cherry hardwood is sensitive to light and the color naturally deepens as it ages. Amber - Amber is a translucent, hand-wiped finish that emphasizes
character, natural variations in color, and grain of the natural Cherry hardwood. The variations of the natural wood are featured in this finish and are natural characteristics of Cherry. Your finish may vary from any
samples that have been exposed to light. Amber / Mocha - Amber finish is highlighted with a medium brown glaze. Amber / Vanilla - Amber finish is highlighted with a light glaze. Burgundy -
Burgundy is a multiple step, hand-wiped stain which showcases the rich character of the Cherry hardwood. The color variations of the solid hardwood typify the natural characteristics. Your finish may vary from
any samples that have been exposed to light. Burgandy / Licorice - Burgandy finish is highlighted with a deep brown glaze. Cider - Cider is a medium brown, multiple steps, hand-wiped stain,
which showcases the dramatic grain patterns of the Cherry hardwood. The color variations of the solid hardwood typify the natural characteristics. Your finish may vary from any samples that have been exposed to light.
Cider / Licorice - Cider finish is highlighted with a deep brown glaze. HICKORY FINISHES: Natural - This natural finish accents the dramatic characteristics, variations in grain
pattern, and wood color of the natural hardwood. A single door sample will not be a good example of all the variations this finish may offer in variety and contrast. The wide range of character and variations in the
Hickory hardwood are considered features of this natural finish and are not defects. Autumn - Autumn is a medium color, hand-wiped satin finish. The dramatic variations of the Hickory are slightly blended
in this distinctive finish. The natural variations of the wood are blended to give a look that only real Hickory can provide. The character variation and wood color variation are natural characteristics of the hardwood
and are considered features of this finish. They are not considered defects. A single door sample in Hickory may not be a good sampling of the variations you may expect in an entire kitchen. Palomino -
A cool, very light brown semi-transparent finish. The end of the wood finishes. |
