WalzCraft Industries RTF refacing materials

We are going to attempt to keep RTF refacing sheets and RTF plywood ordering as simple as possible. Even though the choices are going to be far greater than what we will outline here.

On the RTF colors page, you can see all your available colors. We are not going to repeat them here.

RTF (3D Laminate) sheet material: (available as)
as Loose Foil
with 3M PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive applied to back)
or with Phenolic Back

You would request the loose foil if you are going to apply the foil to uneven surfaces such as a raised panel door. This is not common in most refacing applications.

You would request the 3M PSA for refacing cabinet face frames and other small faces. This is the common peel and stick and widely used.

The Phenolic Back will be used for applying your own adhesive method. It is also .04" thicker than the other two versions, which is an extremely tiny measurement.

RTF (3D Laminate) sheet sizes:
You can order as RCSS rough cut stock sizes
These sizes are: 4'x8', 2'x8', 4'x4', 2'x4', or 24" x 32" only.

Or can be ordered as PCTS precision cut to size. This means you can order it in the sizes you need to the sixteenth of an inch. Grain will run with the length of the pieces, unless stated otherwise. Ordering as PCTS is much more expensive per square foot. If you are refacing a full kitchen or bathroom, it is advised to order one of the RCSS sheet sizes noted above. You will save money, and you will cut your pieces out of those sheets. If you have just a small area to do, and only need a little - then take precise measurements and order it as PCTS.

Ordering example:
On our on-line quotation-ordering form, in either the added accessories or comments fields, you can enter something like this:
2 sheets of 2'x8' RCSS black crystal RTF PSA back.
Or 1 sheet of RCSS 4'x8' arctic ribbon RTF Phenolic back.
Or RCSS 2'x4' birdseye maple RTF PSA with grain running with long measurement.

The 4'x8' and 2'x8' sheets have the grain running with the long measurement only. But the 2'x4' piece and 24"x32" pieces could have the grain running with the short measurement. Very important to state grain direction on those.

RTF plywood - called Custom Pressed Stock
Also something that can become quite complicated, but let's aim to keep it simple.

Walzcraft prefers to press the Phenolic Back RTF foil to BOTH sides of an MDF core or Combi-Core. Their reason for this is that it helps prevent warping. This is their preferred method. The core will be 1/4". Overall thickness will end up around 9/32" with both sides pressed. The Custom Pressed Stock will come in all RTF colors. When used for just refacing purposes, we do recommend the 1/4" core. This will be the least expensive. Refacing cabinet box ends or breakfast bars is best achieved with a thicker covering, such as the custom pressed stock.

The custom pressed stock can come as RCSS in the same sheet sizes specified for the RTF foil. Or as PCTS (precision cut to size). Since you will be using the covering in specific sizes, if you know those sizes, order it as such. It is your call whether you want to cut it to size yourself, or order it in the specific size.

Ordering example:
On our on-line quotation-ordering form, in either the added accessories or comments fields, you can enter something like this:
1 sheet of RCSS 4'x8' almond crystal custom pressed stock (or call it plywood).

Or in the plywood entry fields for PCTS (precision cut to size), enter:
3 pieces @ 14-1/8" wide by 37-15/16" tall. (Color will be presumed to be the color of the doors and drawer fronts if ordering in conjunction.) Sizes can be to the sixteenth of an inch.

The 4'x8' and 2'x8' sheets have the grain running with the long measurement only. But the 2'x4' piece and 24"x32" pieces could have the grain running with the short measurement. Very important to state grain direction on those.

AND most important to state the grain direction on the PCTS pieces. If not stated, grain will be presumed to run with the height measurement. This is generally the longer of the two measurements, but not always. So whenever your grain is not running with the height measurement W x H, you must tell us. Say you have a peninsula end cabinet, and it is wide at 42", but from the toe kick to the bottom of the counter, it is only 31". If you order a piece of RTF plywood at 42" wide by 31" high, the grain will run with the 31" measurement, vertically. But if you wanted the grain to run horizontally, you would need to invert your measurements, or just tell us which measurement to have the grain run with.

Examples of what we mean about grain direction
We are using a drawer and drawer front combination picture for this explanation. Both doors have vertical grain. The drawer front on the left has horizontal grain - which is normal for a drawer front. But the drawer front on the right has vertical grain, the grain is running with the short measurement. It actually looks good this way with the door below it. AND it is solely your choice to do it the way you want to do it. So for the PCTS pieces of plywood, you must picture how you want the grain to run for your finished project. And you must state that when ordering.

Additionally, the custom pressed stock can come in board thicknesses up to 1". We can quote special applications if you have a need for thicker material. Please be specific when making these requests. Plain English is fine, do not be concerned with part numbers or codes.

Pricing
All pricing is done per our quotation form or fax. Please submit your requests that way. Enter your exact sizes for the custom press stock in the entry fields, or your requests for the RTF foil in the accessories entry field.

Put together your order: (these instructions will be shown on each page)

  • a) select a door and drawer front design.
  • b) select your pass profiles for the frame, panel, and edge look you would like.
  • c) select the RTF color that you would like.
  • d) then decide if you need the doors bored for concealed hinges or not (hinge options).
  • e) if ordering mullion or frame only doors, still order by design number, but then tell us if frame only, or how many mullion lites, such as ML4 for 4 lites, ML6 for 6 lites, etc.
  • f) send us an on-line quotation request, all pricing is done by quote request - we prefer it via on-line or fax. Pricing is complex and not easy to do over the phone.
  • g) on our order form, enter all of the above info and your quantities and sizes.
  • h) Walzcraft will accept measurements to the 32nd of an inch! Most of the time, you will measure to the sixteenth of an inch.
  • i) If you require refacing sheets or plywood, please see that page also. You are on this page right now.
